Former Anzhi boss Meulensteen certain about Willian success in the Premier League

21 August 2013 - 09:39

Former Manchester United coach who took over the managerial job at Anzhi Makhachkala for a very short period of time, is certain about Willian's success in the Premier League should Tottenham land him this summer.

  • Mikel Arteta insists 27yo star won't be leaving Arsenal
  • Omari Hutchinson wants to continue at Ipswich Town

  • Billionaire owner Suleiman Kerimov is believed to be frustrated with the club's inability to win trophies and has decided to offload high earning players from the Russian club. The 49 year old was released of his duties barely days into his job after Guus Hiddink decided to leave.

Meulensteen however, has backed Tottenham's chase for their star midfielder Willian and is confident that the 25 year old would succeed in the Premier League.

"I've worked with him for a short time but I really, really like him. He will be an asset for whoever's going to get him," said Meulensteen on Sky Sports News.

"If it's Spurs that's going to get him they'll get an excellent player. He's very versatile, he can play in different positions, he's a very creative player and an excellent professional with a very good personality.

"He's going to be a major trump card for Spurs if they can get the deal to go through.

"He can beat a player, he can score a goal. I thought he was an absolute delight to work with."
