West Ham are considering a move for Porto forward Silvestre Varela, a report from the Portuguese daily A Bola has confirmed. The Hammers are hopeful that a deal can be agreed for the striker before the end of the transfer window.
Varela currently has a 30 million Euro release clause in his Porto contract, but the Portuguese champions are believed to be ready to accept a lot less to let Varela leave. It is understood that 5 million Euros would be enough to speak to the 28-year-old striker.
Varela is currently hoping to make a move to the Premier League this summer to help his chances of regular football as part of Portugal's qualification campaign for the World Cup next summer.
The Hammers also could make a loan move for Varela, in a deal worth around 1 million Euros a season.
