21 September 2013 - 17:01

Championship side Reading have agreed a loan deal to bring out of favor Southampton striker Billy Sharp to the club.

  • Mikel Arteta confirms double fitness blow for Man Utd game

  • The 27 year old joins the Royals for a three month long loan deal after failing to feature in Mauricio Pochhettino's first team plans. Reading boss Nigel Adkins remains a firm admirer of the striker having worked with him prior at Southampton and Scunthorpe United.

Thorpe spent the previous season on loan away at Nottingham Forest and ended up scoring 11 times for them.

A host of other Championship clubs were believed to be interested in the striker but Reading have managed to win the race to sign him. Thorpe becomes the second new signing of the Royals this summer following Chris Baird's arrival.
