Italian manager Paolo Di Canio had been relieved of his Sunderland duties yesterday after the fiery coach reportedly lost control of the dressing room. A number of more experienced professionals visited the club's chairman with their concerns.

  • Di Canio took a hardline approach since taking over at the Stadium of Light, leaving a number of players isolated from the first team squad whilst also maintaining that players should give more effort in every game. According to reports, the likes of John O'Shea and Wes Brown took their concerns to Sunderland chairman Ellis Short.

Ellis Short decided to part company with Di Canio on Monday, and the Italian left the Stadium of Light that evening.

According to reports, Mick Mccarthy and Roberto Di Matteo are hot favourites to take over.
