Southampton to make bid for Davide Astori

Italy international defender Davide Astori has been linked with a sensational move to high flying Southampton. The Italian international defender has been persistently linked with a move to England.

The 6 foot 3 centre back, who is currently playing for Italian side Cagliari, had been linked with a move to Everton last summer but a deal fell through at the last minute after the player refused a move to Everton.<br />

However, Cagliari are believed to be interested in Southampton's forward Gaston Ramirez and could use Davide Astori as a makeweight in part of a deal for Ramirez.<br />

Everton are also expected to renew their interest in the defender, but Southampton appear to be in pole position for his coveted signature.
