Barca skipper Carles Puyol set to retire from professional football?

Barcelona captain Carles Puyol is expected to announce his retirement from the beautiful game during a press conference later this afternoon.

The club's official site confirmed that the veteran defender would make a press statement regarding the shocking news.



The statement read : "The FC Barcelona captain will be speaking to the media from the Ciutat Esportiva pressroom."



"A live English language translation will be streamed on the club website."



The 35-year-old has struggled with injuries in recent seasons and a report from Spanish newspaper Sport claimed that Puyol is ready to call it a day as he has cannot cope the high intensity of football played at the Catalan outfit.



Puyol, who started his senior career at Barca in 1999, has made 593 appearances for the club until now.
