Lucas Leiva looks set to feature regularly in the summer transfer window. Taking his inability to hold a regular spot in Liverpool's midfield into consideration, the Brazilian may seek greener pastures in the coming months. Liverpool are considering cashing in on Lucas and injecting the funds gained on players of Champions League stature.
Gerrard has usurped the Brazilian of his former position with his pin point passing range, composure and his defensive positioning. Lucas's injuries and Gerrard's terrific form have played roles in equal measures to stop Lucas from making it to Brazil's World Cup squad.
Reports suggest that Inter Milan are willing to offer Lucas a deal. Considering Lucas's fierce loyalty to Anfield, Inter could be facing a major task trying to lure one of Anfield's loyal players. Lucas has suggested that he would fight for his place in Liverpool. He told FC Inter news:
"I can say that at the moment I have received no offers.
"Liverpool have never contacted me regarding this possibility (moving to Inter).
"So I can't say there is a chance of me going to Inter because I am under contract at Liverpool.
"Serie A definitely is a great league though."
Lucas Leiva is a long time friend of Inter's Hernanes and whether his presence in Inter turns out to be a deciding factor in Lucas's decision remains yet to be seen.
Lucas on Hernanes:
"Us playing together one day? I have known Hernanes for a long time and we have already played together many times at international level.
"He is a fantastic player and a wonderful person."
Liverpool could be pretty hesitant to sell one of their most loyal servants but also willing to follow the transfer route should a suitable offer come knocking.
Lucas has improved in leaps and bounds since making his debut. He originally looked out of place in the Premier League but his determination and drive quickly helped him earn a place in the Anfield faithful's good books.
