The 19-year-old has had a great run with the Basque club in recent weeks following an injury to fellow centre-back Miranda.

According to Spanish daily AS, his performances have alerted interest from several top clubs in Europe.

The reports adds that the Citizens have had an initial offer worth £17m rejected by Atleti for the player's signature.

City are likely to return next summer with an improved bid for the talented defender.
