Gibson thanks McClaren

20 December 2007 - 10:09

Middlesbrough chairman has expressed his gratitude to Steve McClaren for what he did at Boro. Originally, Gibson had slated McClaren regarding leaving the club, but has now backed down over his comments and apologised.

  • Chelsea prepare mega money bid for Alex Scott
  • Man Utd handed boost in signing West Ham star?
  • Gibson called The Times to say: "Despite their accuracy, my comments did not represent my thoughts and assessment of Steve's five-year period at Middlesbrough.

"During that period, Steve led Middlesbrough to unprecedented achievements.

"We won our first major trophy, enjoyed two wonderful years in Europe culminating in the UEFA Cup final, obtained our highest Premier League finish and points total and twice progressed to the semi-final of the FA Cup.

"The McClaren years were undoubtedly the most successful this football club has ever had.

"I have spoken to Steve since the feature was published, apologising to him and emphasising our gratitude at the marvellous success he brought our club."
