Newcastle United eager to keep hold of Coloccini

Newcastle United boss Steve McClaren has insisted that he is keen to keep club captain Fabricio Coloccini at the club beyond the summer.

The Argentina international has been a regular for the Magpies since his move from Deportivo La Coruna in 2008.

McClaren has now reiterated that he would like to keep hold of the 33-year-old, as he identifies him as a key member for his team next season.

When asked on Coloccini\'s future, the 54-year-old told reporters: \"I don\'t see why not. He\'s got a year left on his contract.

\"I\'ve come in and they asked me to have a look at the players. I\'ve looked and Coloccini is one player I said I want to be here.\"
