Footballers bizarre hobbies

Footballers' bizarre hobbies

17 August 2015 - 11:31

You might think you know your favourite football heroes, but you might well be surprised by some of their favourite hobbies. Quite a few of the most famous footballers out there have some downright bizarre hobbies. Here are just a few of the most surprising hobbies which you might not have been aware of.

  • Mikel Arteta insists 27yo star won't be leaving Arsenal
  • Omari Hutchinson wants to continue at Ipswich Town

  • To begin with, did you hear about Ryan Giggs’ Yoga DVD? Giggs has not downplayed his use of Yoga over the past few years, as a way of increasing his fitness and his flexibility. The flexibility part is probably important, considering Gigg’s history of muscle damage. However, most people are not aware of his Yoga DVD, released in 2011, which is currently available for download from Amazon.

Theo Walcott has surprised many after signing a deal to become a kind of children’s story writer. The books will be written alongside another author, whose identity is not known, and will follow the adventures of the football obsessed wonder child called JT.

Many footballers have some quite strange browsing habits as well.

If you’re a spurs fan and you’re evet hanging out in Marbella, then you might want to visit the Buddha Beach. This boutique beach club – the first of its kind in the area – is owned by none other than the Spurs hero David Bentley!

Never let it be said that Michael Owen doesn’t have a knack for picking up some extra cash whenever he wants to. Case and point, his natural affinity with horse betting. Of course, it’s quite well known that many football players are into sports betting. However, Owen takes it to an entirely different level. Within the England team dressing room he is known for organising his own betting rings, and it looks as though he could well build a further career out of it when being a footballer is no longer an option.

Of course, who can forget Andy Cole’s rap? Cole was doing pretty well as a goal scorer for Manchester United, but fame on the field wasn’t quite enough for him. In 1999 he teamed up with DJ Pied Piper to release the single Outstanding. The song was a flop, and if you look it up it’s easy to see why. Luckily Cole was able to keep his fame and status as a striker. A surprising number of football players have tried their hand at rapping. These include Benni McCarthy, Clint Dempsey and Rio Ferdinand.

This is possibly less of a surprise, given that Ferdinand is known for having a wide range of interests and hobbies. However, it is still not particularly well known that the United player has his own music magazine, so you can keep up to date with all his favourite tunes.

From this article, it’s clear that a lot of our favourite footballers have some pretty odd habits and hobbies. But who doesn’t? Hopefully you now have a better insight into your favourite football celebs and who they are, both on and off the pitch.
