Spurs close in on Downing?

Tottenham are reportedly a step closer to completing a move for Middlesbrough winger Steven Downing. Spurs have been linked with the England international for over a year and a figure of £12 million has been suggested.

Tottenham have been looking for a left-midfielder for some time and Downing always seemed to be their first choice for several seasons.



Gareth Southgate has often stated there will be no move for Downing; but the player himself has always suggested a move may be on the cards at some stage.



Despite Downing being in talks over a new deal, Tottenham are still believed to be considering a swoop for the winger.
