  • "I chose Germany considering the potential for progress in my abilities," Hasebe, 23, told reporters. "When I play, I want to feel like I'm representing Japan and Urawa," he said.

Hasebe, an international, said he expected to leave for Germany on Wednesday and complete a medical checkup before signing the next day.

He joined Urawa in 2002 and contributed to the team's J-League championship in 2006 and last year's Asian Champions League title. He scored 12 goals in 149 J-League games.
