Troy Deeney pens Watford extension

01 July 2016 - 15:56

Troy Deeney has put pen to paper on a fresh contract that will keep him at Watford until the summer of 2021. The 28-year-old played a key role alongside Odion Ighalo upfront as the Hornets stayed clear of Premier League relegation last term.

  • Former Chelsea boss to replace Erik ten Hag at Man Utd?
  • Chelsea to move for former Arsenal goalkeeper?

  • The club captain had been the subject of numerous offers from champions Leicester City who were looking to bolster the spine of their squad ahead of their title defence next season.

However, following negotiations with the Hornets, Deeney has opted to commit his future on a new five-year deal.

"This club really means business and I want to be part of this. I've listened carefully to everything the club has had to say to me recently," he told the club's official website.

Deeney racked 13 league goals for Watford on their return to the top flight last season.
