Blackburn chairman John Williams has assured fans that he will not be allowing David Bentley to leave the club. Newcastle United are reportedly ready to offer £8 million for the ex-Arsenal midfielder.

  • Predicted Chelsea line-up (4-2-3-1) vs Spurs, Gilchrist starts
  • Chelsea midfielder looking forward to London derby vs Spurs

  • "Our position is clear, David Bentley is not for sale," Williams told the Lancashire Evening Telegraph.

"We've not heard anything for Newcastle or anyone else and we wouldn't welcome any interest." Meanwhile, Williams has also revealed that he is keen to sit down with Bentley and discuss a new contract with the former Arsenal youngster.

"We stated recently that we wanted to sit down with David and his agent to discuss a new deal," he continued.

"He only signed a new contract in the recent past, but we felt that his performances this season were such that it warranted us to sit down with him and discuss a new contract. Talks are progressing well."
