Jose Fonte reveals his Champions League ambitions

05 September 2016 - 06:22

Southampton defender Jose Fonte has revealed he would one day want to play for a Champions League club in England. Manchester United had been credited with interest for the Portugal international this summer.

  • Arsenal to swap Gabriel Jesus for Inter Milan star?
  • Arsenal leading race to sign Belgian midfielder

  • The 32-year-old missed out on joining the Mancunian giants over the transfer window, but this has not faded his intention to join a top Premier League side in the future.

"I have lots of targets: to play in the Champions League, to play in a World Cup, to win a trophy in England." he told reporters.

When asked on his possible link with United, Fonte added that he is focused with his job at St.Mary's and would leave the matter for some another time.

The centre-half was in top form for Portugal at Euro 2016 as they went on to beat host France in the finals, the first major honour in the nation's history.

He is currently the Saints' longest serving player having joined from Crystal Palace in the summer of 2010.
