  • The 28-year-old, who graduated through the La Masia academy, had attracted interest from the likes of Arsenal and Manchester City last year.

The Catalan giants have now confirmed via their official website that Busquets has agreed on a new contract which would keep him at Camp Nou until 2021 at the least.

Busquets will pen the fresh deal on Thursday just a day after his side host Atletico Madrid in La Liga this evening. Barcelona are believed to have inserted an audacious release clause of £171m in the proposed contract.

The midfielder has appeared over 375 times since earning promotion from the Barcelona B side in 2008.
