Former Liverpool striker Djibril Cisse has announced his retirement from football at the age of 35.
The attacker has struggled to find a new club after an ongoing injury, having spent time training with his first club Auxerre, in a bid for fitness. Alongside an international career which produced 41 caps for France, with 9 goals, Cisse appeared for a long list of clubs, including Liverpool, Queens Park Rangers, Marseille and Lazio. The journeyman made a total of 423 appearances at professional club level, with a return of 181 goals.
To Premier League fans, Cisse will be best remembered for his time at Anfield, after a £14 million move from Auxerre. During his three year stay on Merseyside, he made 79 appearances and achieved winners medals in both the Champions League and FA cup. It wasn't all positive for the pacy striker though, as he suffered a horrific leg break during Liverpool's fixture against Blackburn in October 2004. Cisse went on to suffer a second bad leg injury in 2006, whilst on international duty.
Cisse can look back on a good career that has seen him play in various countries and score goals in all of them. When it comes to life after football, he intends to work on a career as a DJ and producer. Â Â Â
