African Nations holders Egypt have qualified top of group C with a 1-1 draw against Zambia.

  • Amr Zaki's close-range left-foot volley completed a sweeping team move to give Egypt the lead after 14 minutes.



    The Pharaohs went close again when Hosni Abd Rabou blazed over and Mohamed Aboutrika struck from distance.



    Zambia's equaliser came when Chris Katongo scored with two minutes left, shooting inside the near post.



    Hassan Shehata before the game said that Egypt would go for the win and true to his word he announced a 3-5-2 formation that had brought success against Cameroon and Sudan.



    Zambia must be given credit for making a game of it, they brought themselves into the game with an equaliser this set up a frantic few minutes as Zambia pushed on for the winner; however, James Chamanga sent his powerful shot into the stands as the Chipolopolo's hopes were crushed in the dying seconds.
