Chelsea to hold on to Courtois and Marcos Alonso

Chelsea to hold on to Courtois and Marcos Alonso

25 March 2017 - 18:10

Chelsea's astounding season has captured the attention of the world and the vultures are beginning to circle around some of the club's young stars. There's a lot of talent to be found at Stamford Bridge and many of the other big clubs are hoping that the Blues will be willing to share the wealth.

  • Arsenal to swap Gabriel Jesus for Inter Milan star?
  • Arsenal leading race to sign Belgian midfielder

  • Luckily for fans, it looks as though Chelsea are aiming to hold onto their budding stars for the time being, much to the chagrin of powerhouses like Real Madrid. Among the players garnering a few potential offers is Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois. He has proven himself to be a wall between the sticks at Stamford Bridge, so it comes as no surprise that the 24-year-old keeper has attracted the interest of some of the world's largest clubs. Real Madrid has seemed to be keen on the player, but Courtois has shut down any rumours that he'll be leaving London any time soon. The team has Asmir Begović is a capable backup, but Courtois has established himself as easily one of the most talented young keepers in the world, and it would behoove the team to keep such a player around for the long haul.

And Courtois isn't the only Chelsea star that Real Madrid has had its eye on. The Spanish super-team has reportedly also been showing interest in Chelsea left back Marcos Alonso. The defender has been having an impressive first season with Chelsea and quickly cemented himself as a staple of the starting XI. While the club has no plans to part with Marcos Alonso, they have been eyeing a move for Roma's Emerson Palmieri.

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte hasn't been shy about wanting to shore up the defense while bringing in the Brazilian to provide some extra competition for Marcos Alonso at the wing-back position.

Chelsea has been one of the big spenders in the Premier League ever since 2003, when billionaire Roman Abramovich took ownership of the club. Since then, the Blues have gone on an incredible streak with four Premier League titles (and a fifth likely on the way) coupled with four FA Cups, two Football League Cups, two FA Community Shields, a Europa League championship, and a Champions League trophy. Not a bad run for less than 20 years of play. Of course, the willingness of Abramovich to splurge on massive transfer fees consistently makes the club one to watch when transfer time rolls around.

The Blues are also supposed to be eyeing Southampton centre-back Virgil van Dijk for a summer signing, and there's also buzz that the club might be interested in bringing over forward Kingsley Coman from Juventus. Manager Antonio Conte has made it clear that he wants the money necessary to build the squad his way, and ownership would be wise to agree with the demands of the man who turned the club around from its disastrous season a year ago. Keep a close eye on Chelsea and expect the cash to fly for transfers as soon as the season finishes.
