Spurs fans had hoped they would see the left-back back in action towards the end of the season after being sidelined since last December.



"Although the surgeon was happy with the results of the X-rays he does not anticipate Gareth playing any further part this season," said Spurs sporting director Damian Comolli.



The sprain to his ligament will be a setback for Tottenham boss Juande Ramos. "We are all disappointed, but his long-term fitness is our priority."



The 18-year old has been impressive in his 12 appearances and he had proved that he is versatile and can play in defence as well as mid-field.
