Andre Grays Move To Tottenham Not Going Ahead Due To The Forwards Wage Demands

Andre Gray's Move To Tottenham Not Going Ahead Due To The Forwards Wage Demands

01 July 2017 - 16:18

Anyone who follows Spurs knows that they are in desperate need for a backup striker to fill Harry Kane's boots. If last season they had a player that was up to the standard required to play in the EPL, they may well have snatched the title from Chelsea. They lost too many points when the England and Golden Boot winner was out injured which ended up costing them vital points.

  • Omari Hutchinson wants to continue at Ipswich Town
  • Mikel Arteta insists 27yo star won't be leaving Arsenal

  •

Vincent Janssen was brought in last summer to be Kane's back up but things did not work out well for the forward from Holland. He manages just a single goal in the EPL from open play and his performances were nowhere near the level required to play at the top level. Spurs are determined not to make the same mistake again which is why they are looking at players with Premier League experience and a proven track record in the EPL. The player at the top of Pochettino's list is Andre Gray who plays for Burnley.

Gray is now on around 25,000 pounds per week at Burnley but is looking to increase that amount to a staggering 100,000 pound. Spurs are not willing to pay such a huge sum and are now looking at other options.

There are only two players in the Spurs squad that earn over the 100k mark. Those are Harry Kane and captain Hugo Lloris. Both players are world-class and would make it into any team in the world. The same can not be said about Gray and no club would be willing to match the player's crazy wage demands.

Tottenham Chairman Daniel Levy is known for his hard bargaining and frugal nature. This has sometimes angered the Spurs fans but this time around he will get the backing of the fans as there is no way that the forward is worth this amount. Tottenham would be willing to double his current wages which are a fair and generous offer but they certainly will not quadruple the amount.

While Tottenham builds their brand new stadium they will need to make savings and paying well over the odds for a player is not something the club will do. If Spurs are going to continue to make the amazing progress they have under Pochettino the salary cap may eventually become a problem. Harry Kane is one of the best strikers in the world and thankfully he is extremely happy at Tottenham. There will come a time in the near future that the player will expect a raise to match the other world's best players. This could be a major problem for Spurs as while the stadium is being built they do not have the resources to meet these demands.

Tottenham have improved each season under Pochettino and will be hoping that they can do the same again once the new season kicks off. It is going to be more difficult than previous season due to the team playing their home matches at Wembley. They have a dreadful record at the England team's national stadium and this will need to be overcome if they are going to go one better than last campaign and list the trophy at the end of the season.
