Will Arsenal let go of Sanchez?

Will Arsenal let go of Sanchez?

21 July 2017 - 11:00

According to the latest reports in football media, Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain have renewed their interest in Arsenal ace Alexis Sanchez.

  • Predicted Chelsea line-up (4-2-3-1) vs Aston Villa, Palmer starts
  • Chelsea ready to sell four home-grown players

  • Sky Sports has claimed that PSG are interested in a move for Sanchez, and betting sites like bigfreebet.com report that the French club are now favourites to sign the Chilean.

This latest development has surely added a new twist to the Sanchez-saga, but it has left Arsenal fans quite confused regarding the entire situation. They are relieved that they now have an alternative to Man City for Sanchez, but, at the same time, the likelihood of Sanchez staying in North London has diminished.

Up until now, the Gunners have remained very firm in their stance on Sanchez and have made it very clear that under no circumstances they will sell their star player to a direct rival, i.e., City.

However, PSG’s entry into the equation has changed the situation a little bit. Unlike Bayern Munich, the French club certainly have the financial prowess to stump a big transfer fee and a hefty deal for the Chilean.

Sanchez recently revealed that he wants to play Champions League football next season, and it is very apparent that his inclination is towards leaving the Gunners this summer. He has only one year left on his deal, and it’s very hard to imagine that he would sign a new deal with the North London club.

This predicament has left everyone connected with the club in two minds about Sanchez. He was Arsenal’s best player last season, and his departure would leave a big hole in Arsene Wenger’s side. The Gunners need to bounce right back into the top-four this season, otherwise, their prolonged absence from the tournament could have serious implications for them in the future. It is no surprise that Wenger has stood firm on his stance that Sanchez will not leave the club this summer.

However, one also need to consider that would it be a smart decision for Arsenal to allow Sanchez to leave for free next summer. Why not sell him for around £50m-£60m this summer and invest that money in someone like Thomas Lemar.

Things will get clearer once Sanchez returns to London for the pre-season, but as things stand, neither of City or PSG have made a bid for the player, and the Gunners haven’t given any hint of letting go their star player.

Maybe, after all these years, Wenger has left the economist in him behind, and he wants to give his best shot at the league title next season. There is no doubt that if the Gunners manage to hold on to Sanchez, it would be better than any signing. At least for one season.
