Atletico Madrid took a significant step closer to Champions League football thanks to two second half goals from Diego Forlan as they romped to a 2-0 victory over Racing Santander to move into the top four.
There were worrying times for Atletico - who had only grabbed one point from a total of nine - prior to the game. But this was the perfect way to turn around the run of form.
"In recent matches the ball has just not gone in but it finally did today," said Atletico coach Javier Aguirre.
"Forlan needed the goals and we all know that strikers go on runs in front of goal and we hope that this is the start not just for him but for the whole team."
