Crystal Palace to make January move for Belgian international

22 September 2017 - 18:54

Crystal Palace's newly appointed manager Roy Hodgson is to make a January transfer window move for talented Belgian international midfielder Thomas Foket according to reports this afternoon. The 22-year-old currently plays in his homeland for Gent and has indicated it would be his dream to make a move to the English Premier League.

  • Hodgson, the newly appointed Palace manager, has already been in contact with chairman Steve Parish to discuss transfer deals for the upcoming window. Hodgson has identified the highly rated Foket as his top target and it is rumoured Palace will make an opening offer of 8 million euros to sign the player.

Foket, who has two caps for Belgium, began his career at Gent and had a short spell with KV Oostende before making the return to his first club. He has since impressed there, gone on to make over 100 appearances for his boyhood club and international recognition has now been delivered.

Should Palace secure a deal for Foket, this will be seen in Belgium as a major coup for the lowly Premier League strugglers. According to multiple reports, Italian side Fiorentina have deployed scouts on six occasions to watch the midfielder in action and were considering a January transfer window move for the player. In addition, German club Wolfsburg are monitoring Foket's situation very closely.

Palace are desperate to sign new players in January and Foket is likely to be the first to agree to a transfer deal, with the hope that Hodgson can keep Palace in England's top flight. Will Hodgson be the right man to save the Eagles' top status remains an open question.
