Conte Thinks Morata Can be Great Over Time

Conte Thinks Morata Can be Great Over Time

26 September 2017 - 23:55

Chelsea carried on their resurgence with a thumping 4-0 win over Stoke. The opening day defeat to Burnley seems a life time ago as the Blues are beginning to look irresistible again.

  • Predicted Chelsea line-up (4-2-3-1) vs Aston Villa, Palmer starts
  • Chelsea ready to sell four home-grown players

  • Fortunes have changed since the unexpected loss to Burnley at Stamford Bridge as Chelsea have gone on to beat Spurs, Leicester, Stoke and Everton, whilst playing out a goalless draw with Arsenal at home. They have picked up a possible 13 points from 15 and look back on track to try and defend the title.

The current champions had a disastrous start to last year’s campaign but managed to get proceedings back on track after a change in formation. Conte will be happy with how his charges have bounced back so quickly this time and will expect a continued fight throughout the season as the West London outfit is still very much the team to beat. Alvaro Morata has been the driving force behind Chelsea’s steady start as the Spaniard has now found the net 6 times in 5 games. The elegant striker from Madrid couldn’t have asked for a better start to his career at Stamford Bridge. It is early days still but Morata could be making a cult name for himself in West London.

His manager Antonio Conte certainly likes what he sees in Morata and believes he has what it takes to become a great. Speaking after the 4-0 win against Stoke, Conte said ‘Morata has to continue this way to be a great striker’. It is obvious that the Italian manager rates Morata very highly and hopes with the same work ethic that he will be able to turn in world class performances every week.

The 24 year old arrived from Real Madrid in the summer for a deal that was worth £60m. It was a club record deal for Chelsea and on current evidence looks not so much as money well spent but a bargain. The athletic number 9 has all the attributes that make a successful striker. Blessed with power, pace, control, finishing and an insatiable appetite for goal, one can forgive the Chelsea fans for feeling giddy with excitement.

Conte has also gone on to praise Morata’s temperament and humorously said that he is the type of man you would be happy for your daughter to marry. A telling statement and no doubt a slight dig at want away Diego Costa who is still on the books of Chelsea but will never kick a ball for them again after falling out with Conte.
