Boakye focused on Belgrade amid Chelsea interest

Richmond Boakye responds to Chelsea transfer link

02 November 2017 - 11:04

Ghana international Richmond Boakye has insisted that he is under no pressure to impress Chelsea when Red Star Belgrade take on Arsenal in the Europa League tonight.

  • Chelsea agree personal terms with Adam Wharton
  • Chelsea planning £40m bid to sign West Ham star
  • An exclusive report from Ghanasoccernet last month revealed that the Blues will be monitoring the striker's performance during the doubleheader versus the Gunners.

Boakye could not find the scoresheet in the 1-0 loss to Arsenal in the reverse fixture, and he has now insisted that he will not put the extra effort to impress Blues scouts.

"If I am destined to play for Chelsea then I will join them. I won't feel under pressure to perform even if they are watching me," he told Novosti. "I'm playing well for Red Star, and let's see who wants me. I'm enjoying my football, and playing as well as I can."

Boakye joined Red Star Belgrade from Italian minnows Latina on an initial loan in January, and he has since penned a permanent contract with the Serbian champions.

The 24-year-old has netted 30 goals in just 41 outings for Belgrade in the calendar year whilst he has also impressed for the national team with two goals in as many caps.
