Leicester City have made an official offer for Lille defender Edgar Ie.
The Portuguese international player, who is comfortable playing anywhere in defence, has been on the books with Ligue 1 side Lille since 2017; prior to that the player had a short spell with Barcelona, a mixed time at Villarreal B and then returned home to Belenenses.
The Guinea-Bissau born defender has caught the eye of Leicester City's scouting network and manager Claude Puel is ready to offer 4.5 million euros to sign the 23-year-old on a long-term contract. The Foxes have been busy in the transfer market in recent seasons and are ready to split up the defence that famously help Leicester City win their first ever Premier League title.
Ie has spent many years playing in Portugal's youth teams and is hopeful a move to England will boost his international chances ahead of the World Cup in Russia this year. Ie caught the eye of Barcelona scouts back in 2012 when they snapped up the defender from local club Sporting Lisbon and now Leicester City are ready to take advantage of Barca's failings and sign up the defender on a long-term deal.
Manager Claude Puel has indicated that Leicester City will do most of their business in the first two weeks of the transfer window leaving City fans anticipating some fresh faces arriving at the club in the coming weeks.
It is understood that Spanish clubs Valencia and Sevilla have both deployed scouts to monitor the progress of Ie, but it is Leicester City leading the race to sign the youngster. With reports of an imminent 5 million euro bid from Leicester City, the Foxes are likely to have to increase their offer to secure a deal for the player.
The defender is comfortable playing in the middle of defence but his preferred position is right-back and it is believed that Ie could be a long-term replacement for current first choice full-back Danny Simpson. In recent months Simpson has failed to impress manager Claude Puel, but the French coach has stuck with Simpson for the time being. The purchase of Ie would represent an excellent coup for City should a deal be completed and will be an eventual replacement for Simpson after the current season.
Will Ie choose to make a move to the Premier League and link up with the Foxes or will he prefer a move to Spain; it is understood that his agent has informed the player that Premier League football would be his best option. Leicester City will hope improving their squad gives them an ample opportunity to qualify for the Europa League and using a Unibet Promo Code will give fans an opportunity to bet on City's qualification.
