ONeill happy with Reading win

O'Neill happy with Reading win

24 February 2008 - 17:45

Martin O'Neill has admitted he is delighted with the way Aston Villa pushed aside Reading in today's 2-1 victory over the Royals at the Madejski Stadium; O'Neill was delighted with the victory and has called on his players to keep fighting for a European spot.

  • Arsenal to swap Gabriel Jesus for Inter Milan star?
  • Arsenal leading race to sign Belgian midfielder

  • "I thought we played very well today and I was delighted with the performance," O'Neill told Sky Sports.

"We looked a threat all day and we scored some great goals.

"We needed the second goal, not just because Reading scored so late on, but they I thought they caused us a few problems as well. But we played openly and tried to go and win the game.

"We're now in contention. We've given ourselves a chance.

"There's 11 games to go, a long, long way to go yet, but we've given ourselves a chance and we must compete in that way for the rest of the season.

"We'll have ups and down. We'll play very well and get beaten but perhaps not play so cleverly and win the game which I'll be delighted with, but we've given ourselves a chance and we must keep going."
