Riquelme chased by Spurs

23 August 2007 - 11:35

Juan Roman Riquelme is being tracked by Tottenham. The player is currently owned by Villarreal, however spent the last season on loan in Argentina to Boca Juniors. Boca Juniors have failed to agree a permanent deal with Villarreal, and now Tottenham are chasing the Argentinian midfielder.

  • Fabrizio Romano updates on Nicolas Jackson's future at Chelsea
  • Man Utd serious about signing Rafael Leao
  • Riquelme's agent Marcos Franchi said: "We know Villarreal have received a very important offer from Tottenham, although we haven't been told anything officially."

After August 31 the transfer window is closed and Villarreal will be keen to cash in before then. Tottenham could pay up to £7.6m for the Argentinian who would command a wage of around £80,000 a week. Riquelme did announce that he would play for Boca for free, and Boca's disappointing start to the season has shown how much they miss the player.

Tottenham have had a very disappointing start to the season and may see Riquelme as a huge boost before the start of the new season.
