Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku has suggested that he could step down from international football following the 2020 European Championship.
The 25-year-old has been Belgium's dependable striker over the past nine years and during this period, he has bagged 40 goals from just 75 appearances.
Despite this, Lukaku does not want to come in the way of upcoming prospects and he is prepared to hang his national team boots following the Euros in 2020.
"After the Euros, I think I'll stop. I'm 25, I'm like, I'm not even in my prime yet," Lukaku told Business Insider. "So I still see them as competition right now because they try to take my spot and I don't want to give it up to them. So like another two years, and then they can have it."
Lukaku was impressive for Belgium during the recent World Cup where he contributed four goals but none of those came after the group stage of the global tournament.
As a result, there was some criticism from the supporters, although the striker has remained unfazed by the situation around him. Lukaku was a late substitute during Manchester United's opening day league triumph over Leicester City on August 10.
