So far Manuel Pellegrini's first season back in the Premier League has been mixed in terms of fortunes, but the Chilean boss has started to show that West Ham can be a force to reckon with yet again. Ahead of this weekend's game against Leicester City - seen by many to be a key battle for both clubs - West Ham will be hoping their out of form defence can put in a solid performance and produce a clean sheet.
Prior to the game, winger Robert Snodgrass has revealed West Ham's tactical approach to the game: “We’ll be going there to try and win the game – playing the right way again. After the Spurs game I said we could have sat back in a 4-5-1 against a top-four side, but I don’t think that’s the way the players want to play here.
“If you bring in £100 million worth of talent, you want to go and express yourself and try and play and that’s the way the manager wants to do it and it will be no different Saturday."
West Ham know that Leicester City have the in-form James Maddison capable of causing damage from midfield and he will be an important player to mark out of the game.
Manuel Pellegrini quipped prior to the tie: “Unfortunately we have a lot of long injuries. Yarmolenko has had surgery so he will be out around five months.
“Andy Carroll and Jack Wilshere are still recovering, the same as [Manuel] Lanzini and Carlos Sanchez.
“Andy is working sometimes with the squad. He is improving – I hope that he can play the last game before the international break, if we are 100 per cent sure.”
West Ham are expected to dip into the transfer market come January to fill the gap caused by injuries to key players. West Ham have also been linked with a move for Victor Moses.
On the Leicester City front, Claude Puel is also keen to turn around a disappointing run of form for his young side. Leicester City defender Harry Maguire said of the game: "We’re probably two teams who had the same ambitions at the start of the season.
"Both are probably happy with the way they're playing at the start of the season, but maybe the results could have gone a little bit better.
“It’s going to be an interesting game, one that’s hard to predict and probably the best team who perform on the day will go out and get the three points and we feel like we’ve got enough in our team to go out and get the three points on Saturday.”
