Leicester City have reportedly told Manchester United that they are unlikely to sanction the sale of Harry Maguire unless they receive a higher transfer fee upfront.

  • The 26-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford this summer with United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer keen on improving the club's defence ahead of the new season.

According to The Mail, the Red Devils have made an opening bid of £72m with additional bonuses which would be paid, should the club qualify for the Champions League.

However, the Foxes have rebuffed the package and want a bigger sum upfront, given they are not convinced that the Red Devils will make a swift return to Europe's elite competition.

Maguire, who has four years remaining on his Foxes contract, has been regularly involved with the east Midlands side in their preparations for the new Premier League campaign.

Manchester City have recently failed with a similar offer to United's for the England international but they have decided against continuing their pursuit of the centre-back.
