Unai Emery slams referee after Arsenal defeat to Sheff Utd

Arsenal coach Unai Emery, who faces increasing pressure to keep his job at the Gunners, has slammed the referee Mike Dean in yesterday's 1-0 defeat to Sheffield United. The Gunners manager Emery believes that decisions did not go Arsenal's way.

  • Emery felt that a challenge on Sokratis early on in the game should have been a penalty and a hefty tackle on Bukayo Saka later on should have seen Arsenal awarded a spot kick.

Arsenal were dominant in the game over Sheffield United but were unable to break their opponent's stubborn defensive resistance and eventually slumped to defeat.

“[The penalty] is a very clear one with Sokratis, it’s very clear,” the manager said. “I don’t know if the [Saka incident] was a penalty or not, no penalty?

“I think a yellow card is very hard for that action but I accepted that but when we are working with VAR, the penalty against Sokratis – this is for review.

“This is the action to review because it’s clear. We need to accept it and continue.

“We did not deserve to lose and we conceded a lot of corners in the first half and they scored in one action.”
