Bournemouth midfielder Lewis Cook appears to be a top transfer target during the January transfer window for a number of Premier League sides, with the likes of Everton and Wolves both rumored to have expressed interest in the 22-year-old. Cook, who has forced his way in to Eddie Howe’s side in recent months, is seen as one of Europe’s best up and coming centre midfielders.
Despite having just returned from injury that the player sustained back in December of last year, Cook has re-emerged in to Bournemouth’s first team and several Premier League sides have been monitoring his progress.
Bournemouth look likely to survive this year, and Cook is apparently ready to stay put at the club to help his team push on for European football. Such an accolade would surely make manager Eddie Howe one of Europe’s most wanted coaches and Bournemouth have succeeded at avoiding relegation for three years in the top flight; despite the latest relegation odds on Ladbrokes suggesting otherwise.
Just last week, an Everton scout was spotted watching the Cherries in action and it is understood their primary January target is a move for Cook.
"I have just started playing football here,” Cook quipped when asked about a transfer move. "I had been out for a long time, so I am just focusing on Bournemouth at the moment. "I am loving being back and playing football. I just forget about it (the speculation) really. "You’ve just got to focus on your football here and keep enjoying it.
"I am obviously enjoying playing football again - that’s all I am focusing on right now. "I am enjoying my football here, it’s a great place to be and play great football."
Everton fans are angry with the way Marco Silva's side have been playing in recent weeks, as the club looks to push themselves even closer to the Premier League's relegation zone. The Toffees have been in very poor form, and many fans have pointed to the departure of Idrissa Gueye to Paris St Germain for a total of £29 million as a key catalyst for the Toffees' recent dip in form. Several pundits believe that Everton have failed to replace Gueye properly, despite having been very active on the transfer market in recent months.
Whatever the outcome for Cook, the player will be keen to cement his place in a team that is amongst England’s top sides.
