Premier League: Relegation Candidates

Premier League: Relegation Candidates

01 November 2019 - 14:39

The new Premier League season is still relatively young, but the table is already starting to take shape. It looks like Liverpool and Man City are going to compete for the title once again, but what about the teams at the foot of the table? Will the newcomers go straight back down or will some of the well-established clubs find themselves in trouble?

  • Predicted Arsenal line-up (4-2-3-1) vs Man Utd, Saka starts
  • Predicted Man Utd line-up (4-2-3-1) vs Arsenal, Rashford starts

  • Some of the best football betting sites are tipping teams like Newcastle, Watford, and Brighton to struggle. Can Steve Bruce keep the Magpies in the division? Will Watford need to look for another manager? Let’s analyze some of the potential Premier League relegation candidates below.

    Sheffield United

It’s always difficult for the newly-promoted sides. Their backs are against the wall from day one. However, we’ve seen enough from the Blades already. We think that they can survive. Chirs Wilder’s team put on a fantastic performance against Champions League winners Liverpool at Bramall Lane in September. If they can turn their home ground into a fortress, we’re confident that they can secure enough points to stay in the division.

John Lundstram, Oliver Norwood, and Billy Sharp are the key men. If they can stay fit for the majority of the season, Sheffield Utd should score plenty of goals. We’re backing the Blades to maintain their EPL status.

    Watford

It’s been a difficult start to the season for the Vicarage Road side. They fought back from 2-0 down to earn a point against Arsenal, but they capitulated against Man City the following week. Their 8-0 defeat at the Etihad was embarrassing for everyone involved with the club. Quique Sánchez Flores has a huge job on his hands. The Spanish manager will need to start collecting points immediately if he wants to keep the Hornets in the league.

They certainly have the players to turn it around. Troy Deeney and Gerard Deulofeu know how to score goals, but the defence needs to sharpen up. We fear the worst for Watford, time will tell whether or not they can secure enough points.

    Newcastle

The Magpies have been struggling both on and off the pitch in recent months. The fans are disgruntled with owner Mike Ashley about the way the club is being run. To make matters worse, the Toon Army have only picked up a handful of points so far. Can Steve Bruce get the job done?

Newcastle have plenty of talented players in their ranks. Miguel Almiron, Joelinton and Sean Longstaff have been the standout performers so far. However, they’ll need to up their game over the coming weeks and months. If the Magpies don’t start collecting points quickly, their fate could be sealed.

    Brighton

The Seagulls have been toying with relegation for the last few years. Could this be the season that it all goes wrong? New manager Graham Potter is trying to make his stamp on the team, but it takes time. He’s made a handful of new signings, but things haven’t clicked just yet.

Brighton will need to beat the teams around them if they want to stay in the Premier League. What’s more, they’ll need to improve at the Amex. We think they’ll pull it off.
