Portuguese giants Sporting Lisbon have enquired over the possibility of re-signing Marcos Rojo as part of the agreement which would see Bruno Fernandes heading to Manchester United this month.
Rojo has made just seven appearances for the Red Devils this term but over the past six weeks, he has not featured for the club in any competition despite recovering from a muscle injury.
As a result, it is quite clear that he will head through the exit door this month and it appears that former club Sporting are prepared to offer him a return to the Primeira Liga.
United are presently reluctant to meet Sporting's £65m for Fernandes and they are only willing to offer £50m upfront with the remaining sum to be settled in the form of performance-based bonuses.
Sporting seem open to accepting the package, if they are offered Rojo as a makeweight. United would also have to agree to pay part of the player's wages until the expiry of his club contract in June 2021.
