Manchester United extend contract of central defender

18 January 2020 - 14:17

Manchester United have reportedly moved to trigger the extension clause present in the contract of Ivorian defender Eric Bailly.

  • Chelsea to move for former Arsenal goalkeeper?
  • Former Chelsea boss to replace Erik ten Hag at Man Utd?

  • The centre-back has been injured since the beginning of the campaign after picking up a knee ligament damage in pre-season with the club.

His deal was scheduled to expire in the summer but Sky Sports News claims that the club have now activated a clause present in the contract.

As a result, his existing deal has been extended by another 24 months and it remains to be seen whether Bailly can repay the faith placed by United.

Bailly has recently returned to the playing field with the reserve side and reports have claimed that he could be available for the FA Cup fourth round.

Still, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer may not rush the centre-back into action and may consider playing the centre-back from the substitutes' bench instead.

Manchester United are scheduled to face Liverpool in the Premier League on Sunday. They are currently five points behind the top four.
