The Red Devils have identified the 16-year-old as one of their top summer targets and they are keen to get a deal over the line ahead of Borussia Dortmund.

According to ESPN, the Mancunian giants have been in negotiations with the Blues in recent weeks but there has yet to find a suitable agreement for the teenager's transfer.

The west Midlands outfit are looking for an initial fee of around £20m upfront but United are only willing to pay the sum in the form of instalments.

At a result, there has been an impasse in the talks between the sides and it remains to be seen whether Dortmund will take advantage of the situation.

Aside from Dortmund, Arsenal have also been credited with an interest in the youngster, who is capable of playing in both the midfield and attacking positions.
