Fans Return To Soccer Matches In France

16 July 2020 - 19:07

For the first time in over four months, French football fans have returned to the stands subject to several regulations.

  • Chelsea midfielder wants to play in Olympic games
  • Arsenal favourites to sign French winger ahead of Chelsea

  • During the exhibition match, a star-studded PSG demolished French League 2 side Le Havre last weekend, beating the team 9-0.

During the Sunday match, fans were allowed to return to the stadium, and they turned out in thousands to witness PSG in live-action against Le Havre. However, only 5000 people were allowed inside the 25,000-seat Stade Oceane, following relaxed health regulations by the French Government. Other guidelines were also put in place for the safety of the players and spectators while watching the game.

For instance, the spectators were required to have face masks to access the stadium and people were also asked to sit away from each other in the stands. The upper seating tiers were also left empty.

The sitting guidelines issued during the game were highly supported by PSG stars Kylian Mbappe and Neymar, who were spotted wearing face masks while making their way to the arena. That was right before embarking on an elegant display of skills that left Le Havre in total disarray after conceding nine goals and scoring none.

During the game, PSG players wore kits with the words Tous Unis and Merci to mean All United and Thank You in honor of health workers in the country. While the return of the fans back to the stands came amid growing concerns over a possible second wave of infection, sports punters at Betway88 have no reason to worry. Even better, the health officials didn’t deem the risk associated with this action as too big.

According to sports minister Roxana Maracineanu, seeing the fans back to stands again is a win for French football and sports in general. The outgoing minister was delighted to see that soccer in the country can start taking its normal look, with more fans in the stadium. That makes France the only Western European country to do this successfully. That was good news for punters who like wagering on French football at Betway88.

The home fans seemed calm during the game, despite the uphill task that was facing their side. According to the president of Le Havre supporters, this game wasn’t really about winning but a way to allow fans to get back together in support of the game.

France is among the top 5 leagues in Europe to allow fans back to the stadiums during live matches. It was also the only country that completely abandoned its domestic league with no plans of resuming even after the infection numbers started decreasing, though England, Italy, Spain, and Germany have resumed their domestic leagues. Nonetheless, the four countries are yet to allow fans back to the stadiums.

The return of spectators back to stadiums comes as the death toll in France surpassed 30,000 people last week. There are also growing concerns over a new wave of infections, with football matches believed to have contributed to the initial spread of the virus across Europe.
