Manchester United have reportedly ended their interest in signing RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano this summer.
Earlier in July, the centre-back had only 11 months remaining on his contract, but no clubs were prepared to trigger the £53m release clause.
Upamecano had the option of running down his deal, but he instead chose to put pen-to-paper on a two-year renewal until the summer of 2023.
According to The Mail, United are interested in signing the centre-back, but they are unlikely to make an approach in the ongoing transfer window.
Upamecano's current deal has a reduced release clause of £38m, but that does not become active until the conclusion of the 2020/21 campaign.
Should United want to sign him this summer, they would have to pay much more for his services, but that appears unlikely to happen.
Instead, the club are looking into a deal for Pau Torres from Villarreal and remain hopeful of negotiating a lesser fee with the Spanish side.
The Spain international has a £45.6m release clause on his contract with the Yellow Submarines.
