Newcastle for Tijani Belaid

Newcastle for Tijani Belaid

14 April 2008 - 16:17

Newcastle are considering a summer transfer move for Inter Milan's on-loan youngster Tijani Belaid. The French born midfielder is currently on loan at Czech side Slavia Prague and is due to return to Italy in July.

  • Chelsea ready to sell four home-grown players
  • Predicted Chelsea line-up (4-2-3-1) vs Aston Villa, Palmer starts

  • Belaid has represented the Tunisian international side, and made his debut against Mali in August 2006. Belaid has since gone on to represent Tunisia several times.

Being born in France, Belaid will not require a work permit under EU regulations.

Newcastle are putting the finishing touches on an estimated £500,000 deal for the midfielder, who is capable of playing anywhere across the midfield.

Slavia Prague's coach Karel Jarolim had previously become frustrated with the midfielder's disciplinary problems: "I think he needs to think above all about his behaviour off the pitch, I don't like his attitude when he doesn't play or when he comes on as a substitute."

However, a month later he was recalled to the first team squad again and has started to show the potential that brought him to Inter Milan.
