Smith rues Old Firm defeat

Rangers boss Walter Smith admitted he was very disappointed to throw away a great opportunity after losing his first Old Firm derby since taking control of the Glasgow giants. A last minute winner from Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink wrapped up the result for Celtic.

“We had a situation where Celtic were the better side in the first half, although there weren’t many opportunities,” he told BBC Scotland.



“In the second half we imposed ourselves better and equalised.



“When you get a man sent off the game is always going to turn.



“When you’re in our situation - defending really well and preventing many opportunities – it’s difficult to take.



“We were disappointed to lose the goal in the last few seconds.”
