Battle hotting up for Haaland

21 February 2021 - 15:19

It looks set to be an intriguing summer in the race to land one of the brightest prospects in Europe. Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Braut Haaland has been linked with some of the biggest clubs in the continent, and the battle for his services is expected to be fierce.

  • Premier League Clubs Lining up

There are plenty of football fans our there who do their utmost to keep on top of live scores, stats and post-game articles. Specific sites have sprung up facilitating such fans on their quest to follow football matches today. It's these people who will be aware of the steep rise in the sport the Norwegian forward has made. Haaland started making headlines with his performance at RB Salzburg before making the switch to Germany last year. Now one of the top strikers in the Bundesliga, many are expecting the 20-year-old to take the next step to the English top flight.

Born in Leeds when his father Alf-Inge Haaland was playing his football at Elland Road, Haaland has been strongly linked with a return to the land of his birth. Manchester United are just one of the clubs connected with a move for the former Molde forward. Red Devils boss Solskjaer has the obvious Norwegian link with the rising star and would relish the prospect of welcoming him to Old Trafford this summer.

Chelsea are also believed to be in the hunt for a new forward, as manager Thomas Tuchel looks for a striker to lead the line at Stamford Bridge next season. Manchester City have also been rumoured to be keeping tabs on the situation, as the Citizens look for a long-term replacement for veteran striker Sergio Aguero.

    Spanish Giants Keeping Watch

With reports suggesting Haaland could be available for a fee in the region of £66m this summer, it would be unusual for La Liga giants Real Madrid and Barcelona not to be interested in one of the brightest talents in the game.

Barcelona might well be regretting allowing Luis Suarez to move on to rivals Atletico Madrid last summer, without bringing in a suitable replacement. Atleti are leading the way in the La Liga standings, and look to be well on course for the title this season. Signing Haaland this summer would go a long way to helping Barca regain some of the dominance they once enjoyed in the competition.

Meanwhile Real Madrid are still looking for a forward who can replace Portuguese legend Ronaldo, and a long-term successor to Karim Benzema. Again, it would be easy to see Haaland fit into the set-up at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Ultimately it’s Borussia Dortmund and Haaland himself who are in the driving seat, and will decide the forward’s future. Haaland does have a release clause in his current deal at BVB, which means he could leave for £65m when it becomes active in June next year.

An intriguing summer lies ahead for the youngster, and there will clearly be no shortage of takers if the Scandinavian sensation decides he’s ready for a new challenge.
