Manchester United goalkeeper set for free transfer

Argentine goalkeeper Sergio Romero will leave Manchester United on a permanent basis when his contract expires in June.

  • Juventus and Napoli enter race for Chelsea winger
  • Felix Nmecha linked with Chelsea move

  • The 34-year-old was desperate to join Everton on loan last summer, but the move was blocked by the Red Devils' hierarchy.

He had the opportunity to terminate his contract during the January transfer window, but decided against the option.

According to Football Insider, Romero will end his six-year association with the club when the current campaign concludes.

He was the back-up keeper behind David de Gea for five seasons, but fell out-of-favour with the emergence of Dean Henderson.

He thereafter had a fall-out with manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and owing to this, he has not been registered in their squad.

Romero has made 61 appearances for the club and the last of those came against Copenhagen in last season's Europa League quarter-final.

He was heavily linked with a move to Boca Juniors in January and could join them on a free transfer in three months' time.
