We are three months into the 2021/2022 Premier League season, so now is a good time to assess which of the summer transfer signings have made the biggest impact.
It was a busy summer for most clubs in the league, with some huge names arriving into the league. Here are three players who have got off to a fantastic start at their new club.
Cristiano Ronaldo
If there were any doubts about the impact Cristiano Ronaldo could have at Manchester United at the age of 36, they've surely been put to bed already. The five-time Ballon d’Or winner has scored five goals in six games in all competitions, despite being a much different player to the one who left Old Trafford in 2009 to join Real Madrid. Ronaldo is now a number nine who poaches in the boxes and scores many more goals than he used to from the wing.
The Portuguese star is going to be in contention for the Golden Boot in the Premier League this season and he will be hoping his goals can help Manchester United towards the title. As it stands, they are priced at odds of 65/4 with Marathonbet to win their first league crown since 2014, which is rather promising given that they have been overshadowed in recent years by other esteemed clubs such as City.
Conor Gallagher
A total of 12 players left Crystal Palace during the summer, so it was vital that new manager Patrick Vieira was recruited before the transfer window closed. The pick of the business that the Eagles made was the acquisition of Conor Gallagher on a season-long loan deal from Chelsea.
Gallagher is in his second full season in the Premier League. He was out on loan at West Brom in the 2020/2021 campaign. The midfielder has already made a positive impact on his latest club. He has scored twice in his opening six games and has been an integral part of the southwest London club’s attack.
It remains to be seen if he will get his chance at Chelsea, but if he does continue producing impressive performances in the Premier League for the Eagles, the European champions are likely to realise what a great talent they have on their books.
Demarai Gray
Rafael Benitez strengthened the wingers at his disposal not long after being appointed as Everton’s new manager. One of his prize signings was Demarai Gray from Bayer Leverkusen and it was reported that the Toffees paid around £1.7 million for the Englishman. If that is the case, he could end up the bargain of the summer.
Thus far, Gray has scored three goals in his opening seven Premier League matches. Along with Andros Townsend, another summer signing, the pair have been very dangerous on Everton’s wings and both players have fitted seamlessly into Benitez’s team. It's important to remember that this is not Gray’s first spell in the Premier League: he was, in fact, part of the Foxes title-winning squad in 2016. He played 12 goals for Claudio Ranieri’s side in that incredible season for the Foxes, which indicates that the 25-year-old already has a lot of experience under his belt. Promisingly, he looks like he has settled well at his current club.
There is plenty of time yet for the above list to change and there is also the January transfer window coming up. Some clubs will be looking to add some quality to help them to finish the season strongly.
