Manchester United have reached an agreement with Barcelona over the transfer fee for Frenkie de Jong, journalist Oriol Domenech claims.
The Red Devils are eager to pursue a new holding midfielder, and De Jong has been identified as the prime transfer target.
It is now revealed that an agreement is in place over the transfer fee, but the midfielder has snubbed a move to Old Trafford.
United boss Erik ten Hag has been in constant contact with De Jong on the phone, but the midfielder has refused to join.
The Red Devils' failure to qualify for next season's Champions League could be a prime reason behind the midfielder's stance.
United may now start looking at alternative targets. They have recently been linked with Wolverhampton Wanderers' Ruben Neves.
Neves is likely to be sold by the Midlands outfit as he has no plans of extending his deal expiring in the summer of 2024.
Wolves value him in the region of £50 million.
