Manchester United have reportedly moved ahead of Arsenal in the race to sign Ajax defender Lisandro Martinez this summer.
The Gunners have been in regular negotiations with Ajax for the 24-year-old, and they recently made a second offer of £35 million.
While Ajax have yet to respond to the proposal, TalkSPORT claim that United have now made an opening bid of £39 million for the player.
The proposal is reportedly close to Ajax's £41 million price tag, and it is claimed that they are more likely to sign the Argentine.
Martinez worked under manager Erik ten Hag at Ajax for the past three seasons, and it is reported that he is keen on a reunion.
Aside from Ten Hag's presence, the centre-back is tempted to join United knowing that he would play in his preferred position.
Arsenal are also very interested in signing him, but they only plan to play him in the left-back position with no guaranteed starts.
