Manchester United to miss out on Frenkie de Jong?

De Jong to stay at Barcelona?

Manchester United to miss out on Frenkie de Jong?

Frenkie de Jong's move to Manchester United could be doubtful after the comments made by Barcelona president Joan Laporta.

  • The Red Devils have been aiming to sign the Dutchman over the past month, and it has recently been claimed that a deal is close.

A guaranteed fee of around €65m has been agreed but the clubs still need to sort out the structure of the add-ons (€20m).

Amidst this, Laporta has thrown a surprise by insisting that De Jong is not for sale and the midfielder prefers to stay at the club.

"There are many clubs that want him, not just Man United. We have no intention of selling him, he wants to stay." he said.

United are still hopeful of signing De Jong, but they may need to act fast, considering Chelsea are also keeping tabs on him.

The Blues recently failed to hijack Spurs' move for Richarlison and could make a similar late approach for De Jong's services.

De Jong is eager to play in the Champions League next season, and this could provide an advantage for Chelsea over United.
