Frenkie de Jong has revealed that he was focused on staying at Barcelona this summer despite the strong interest from Manchester United.
The Red Devils had identified the Netherlands star as their prime summer target, but they were unable to get a deal over the line.
The club managed to agree a transfer package worth €85m with Barcelona, but De Jong had no intention of discussing personal terms.
As a result, United were left with no choice but to turn their attention to Casemiro. The Brazilian star joined in a deal worth €80m.
De Jong has now revealed that he always wanted to stay at Barcelona.
Speaking to reporters recently, he said: "I always wanted to stay at Barcelona and this is why I always remained calm in the summer."
De Jong started the La Liga season as a regular on the bench, but he managed to play the entire 90 minutes in the two games before the break.
